A Road Trip through Colorado must see is Independe A Road Trip through Colorado must see is Independence Pass. It is the highest paved mountain pass, that is best accessed between May to October. This was just one stop and highlight of many from our Colorado road trip last summer. Gus took this route when leaving the Ouray and Grand Junction area to get back to Denver via highway 82 after dropping Vic off at the airport. The cool thing is if you're not a hiker you can experience what its like at 14k ft without having to climb. You can walk at independence pass to see some cool views from the continental divide as you cross the Rockies!⁣
